Underwater LEDs are becoming a very popular accessory for wakeboard and fishing boats. Wakeboard boats mount the underwater LED to their transom for mostly cosmetic looks; However, some rogue night time wakeboarders and wakesurfers like the underwater lights to eluminate the wake. Night time fisherman like to add the under water LEDs to attract bugs to the water; which the small fish eat, and in return attract the bigger fish to eat the smaller fish.
Under water LEDs come in a rainbow of colors. I have found Blue underwater LEDS, Red under water LEDs, White underwater LEDs, Green under water LEDs, and Yellow underwater LEDs. I’ve also found differents types of LED casing like stainless steel, strip lighting, rope lighting, individual LEDs, and plastic incased. Stainless steel is the much more durable way to go for the harsh under water environment your boat when operating in fresh or salt water. All other LEDs are complete garbage, and will fall apart.

I have found many companies who manufacture these LEDs. The most well known company is Abyss; however, this company is very expensive. I found that Bullet Lines manufactures an LED that out performs Abyss S 600 in heat elimination, power consumption, flat panel mounting, peak emmitting angle, and brightness. Checkout out Bullet Lines Underwater LED boat lights for LEDs that outperform Abyss at almost under half the price: http://www.bulletlines.com/servlet/the-90/Underwater-LED–dsh–Boat/Detail

Mounting the feet…
Mounting PointsStep Three – Place Tower on the BoatAdhere the rubber gaskets, if provided, to the bottom of the tower feet by peeling offthe backing of the adhesive side. With the rails attached to the tower and with the help of a friend or two, lift the tower onto the boat with the ski tow to the back. Ensure all 4 feet are planted squarely onthe gunnels or side of the boat and check that the tower is centered. Tower should bebalanced with all 4 feet in full contact with the boat.Measure for CenterPick a bow mounting point on the one side of the boat. Measure from the nose of theboat to that point and match that distance on the other side. It is important the bowfeet are directly across from each other. Remember to be sure there is accessunderneath where you want to place the tower feet.NOTE: Double-check your measurements, making sure you have the samemeasurement on both sides of your boat.Step Four – Drill and Attach to BoatDetermine the appropriate size drill bit for the hole in the tower foot. Ensure the drillis in reverse. Putting the drill in reverse will prevent any chipping of the boat’ssensitive gelcoat. Through one of the holes in the tower foot plate, start to drill into theBowMountingPointsAftMountingPointsPORT
Step Two – Locate Mounting Points
Before putting the tower on the boat, first plot out locations for the mounting points. This is where the tower will attach to the boat.As a guideline, bow mounting points are usually 2” to 4” in front of the windshield, andaft mounting points are usually between 2” to 6” behind the windshield. As you plan your tower’s placement, keep the ski tow centered over the boat.Stance/ Except for some unique towers, generally the bow legs are mounted in front of thewindshield and the aft legs end up about the middle of the boat. You will want to center the ski tow light at about the middle of the boat length-wise.Access check for mounting points that provide easy access to the under side of the hull for placement of the mounting hardware. This could be through a speaker or behind an upholstered panel. If the fiberglass in the mounting area is less than 3/8” thick, reinforce it with wood or additional fiberglass for structural integrity. Some boats may require you to cut an access hole through an interior wall for easier assembly. If this is necessary you should use a hole saw to cut through the wall and a“pie plate” which looks similar to a plastic speaker cover, to hide the hole after tower assembly. Check with your dealer or marine supply store for a pie plate. Be sure to pick the same size of hole saw as the pie plate you find. Also be aware of any wiring or plumbing within the hull that may be damaged by drilling. Pick a new spot if such items are in the way, or ensure they are out of the wayduring drilling.Selected mounting points must have a space at least as wide as the foot block.Side MountsSome tower designs require mounting on the side of the boat. When side mounting, find the location where the foot fits the curvature the best. You do not want gaps greater than 1/8” between the tower foot and the side of the boat.
TOOLS NEEDED FOR WAKEBOARD TOWER INSTALLATION

WAKEBOARD TOWER HARDWARE KIT
Your tower manufacturer should provide you a hardware kit with all the necessary back plates, gaskets, screws, nuts and bolts. During installation be sure to set your tower on a padded surface to avoid scratches or damage. Your tower will come with foam wrapped around the tubing; you may want to keep this foam in place until installation is complete. Be sure to grasp the tower with a solid grip when moving it around during installation; the tower falling can damage your boat, or even damage the tower.
Step One – Attach Rails to Tower
Most all factory towers have the top tower rails that attach to 4 legs; 2 legs for each side of the boat. Some towers like the Bullet Lines Pro Air Towers will also have an additional mounting bar for each side of the boat that the legs attach to. All tubing will be detached and packed individually for shipping. Be sure to completely assemble tower before starting installation; attache the legs to the top rails, and etc. Be careful to pay attention to all tubing pieces as they could be specific to a port or starboard side.
Things to Remember
Pre - Wakeboard Tower Install
• You have two choices in purchasing a wakeboard tower; 1
Custom Wakeboard Tower – The tower you purchased was
made for a specific make and model of boat. DO NOT
INSTALL THE TOWER ON ANY OTHERBOAT.
2. Universal Wakeboard Tower - Please put the tower
together and adjust to fit your boat.
• Do not install without another person present. Installation
requires more than 1 person.
• Inspect your boat for access points that are easy to get to.
Some boats may need an access hole drilled to reach
mounting hardware.
• Fiberglass in the mounting area of each leg must be at least
3/8″ thick, or you must reinforce it with wood or additional
fiberglass for structural integrity.
HARDWARE INSTALLATION
• Be sure to hand tightened all hardware. Do not use air
tools or electric drills to tighten hardware. You can also
use some loctite.
• Inspect and tighten all hardware again after the first
use, then maintain tightness regularly for safety.
• If any rattling or excessive moving of the wakeboard
tower is discovered, stop wakeboarding, and check all
mounting hardware for loose bolts.POST- WAKEBOARD TOWER INSTALLATION
