Kicker leaked out this week that a new HLCD tower speaker will be released, and we have got one of the first pics to share. There is only limited information on them at this time, but I will share with you what I know.

STILLWATER, USA - The KICKER HCLD Tower Component Speaker System offers boaters and wakesports riders the ultimate musical experience as the world's first horn-loaded, compression-driver component system.   

The KM6500.2 consists of two 6.5-inch, high-efficiency midrange speakers with lightweight, dual neo-magnet technology and cast-aluminum baskets with heat-sinking properties, delivering maximum sound quality. Included is a pair of 2-inch, horn-loaded compression drivers with titanium diaphragms and phase plugs coupled to 60-degree vertical by 90-degree horizontal dispersion horns to help push music out to the skier, wakeboarder or wakesurfer. Integral crossovers complete the package.

KICKER KM6500.2 component speakers are engineered with the highest design standards. They are built to fit standard 6.5-inch speaker cans, making it easy for practically any boater with an existing tower can to replace with little effort. What sets the KM6500.2 apart from the crowd is the horn, which also fits the same existing tower can with the same hole diameter and bolt pattern as the KM6500.2 midrange speaker.

UV treatments on the midranges' injection-molded cones, Santoprene^TM surrounds, baskets, and grilles help them to last in freshwater or saltwater environments. These speakers endure most any weather conditions with UV-resistant treatments and splash- and spray-resisting, sealed midrange motors and cones.

Water-resistant, bolt-thru grilles offer added speaker protection, and all hardware is made from rustproof, 316L stainless-steel. All KICKER Marine Components meet or exceed industry standards for environmental humidity and corrosion* and for material degradation due to UV exposure.**

For 35 years Polk Audio has been committed to enhancing everyones entertainment in speaker sound, so when Polk Audio decided to build a marine certified speaker; they did it in a way that only Polk Audio knows how: BIG. Polk Audio introduced a very qood quality speaker called the MM651 which was already marine certified, and then they modified it more to build the MM651 UM. UM stands for Ultra Marine. The biggest changes to the MM651  to create the Ultra Marine version is that they used a dome mounted tweater instead of a tweater on tweater post, and they mounted the crossover directly to the back of the magnet. Dome mounted tweaters are more efficient in marine environments because there is no post behind the tweater that could allow water to penetrate the speaker, and the magnet mounted crossover makes the speaker one piece and super easy to install. Bonus is that when mounting these in wakeboard tower speaker cans or enclosures, there is no nead for a crossover shelf to mount the speakers to. The PRO 80 uses one Trick Connect™ Bracket per speaker. These Trick Connect Brackets are designed to give you the option to have speakers facing the rear for music while riding or to be faced forward when the boat is beached. Trick Connect also makes removing the speakers for storage quick and easy.

There are three pieces to the Trick Connect™ Bracket assembly. The tower clamp that attaches to the tower, the U bracket that is attached to the speaker and there are various sizes of rubber inserts to use depending on what size tower pipe you have. The Trick Connect 2™ Bracket is a 2 7/8 inch Chrome Plated Aluminum Clamp. The rubber inserts will fit the following towers. (1 5/8″, 1 3/4″, 2″, 2 1/4″, 2 1/2″, 3″)

Pyle has tradittionally been known for strictly car audio. However, over the last few years they have ventured into many other areas. Within a short number of years Pyle has become known for it's affordable marine audio equipment. Pyle has 2 wakeboard tower speaker models that come in your choice of black or white: one model is the PLMRW65 and PLMRB65: this is a 6.5" tower speaker, and the 2nd model is PLMRW85 and PLMRB85: this is a 8" tower speaker. Pyle wakeboard tower speakers are the lowest of low in entry level tower speakers. However, they are popular, and serve a purpose at the etremely low price points.

Kicker KMT6 wakeboard tower speakers are an entry level speaker priced extremely well for the pocket book. I have never personally owned a set, but I have heard them on the water, and I was pleasently surprised: I was expecting less. However, they did not blow me away like some other brands can either. I believe the Kicker KMT6 Wakeboard Tower Speakers performs well above the price range though. Below I pasted the product description directly from Kickers' product pages.

KMT6 Long-Range Wakeboard Tower Speakers

The KMT6 is a full-range, high-quality two-way speaker system specifically designed for cruising in or being pulled behind a boat. Dual 6.5-inch midrange drivers flanking a unique exponential-horn-loaded, titanium-dome tweeter intensify and carry the music from your aquatic cruiser. It’s all integrated into a pair of stylish, injection-molded ABS enclosures pleasing to the eyes and ears.

All the elements are in place to make this marine sound system splash-resistant. The mids utilize a sealed cone and motor assembly, while the tweeter itself is protected by dense, open-celled foam. Everything is UV-treated as well for improved resistance against the marine environment.Worried about mounting issues? KICKER has that covered, too.

The KMT6 System’s billet-aluminum mounting brackets adjust to seven common sizes, matching most every wake tower or roll-bar diameter. Each enclosure is also designed with a five-way, binding post hook-up on the back for added stability. This system provides stainless-steel mounting hardware tough enough to take what Mother Nature throws at it.
